According to Ir. Winarto, herbalist of Karyasari Medicinal Gardens, there are more than 70 kinds of alkaloids in all parts of the tapak dara plant. In fact, in this plant also contained the anticancer alkaloid, the active component of vinblastine and leurocristine (vincristine). Both of these compounds have antineoplastic properties, which is able to inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

However, be explained by Endah Lasmadiwati, herbalist from Sringanis Park, Bogor, the tapak dara was a slightly toxic plant. Hence, the use as medicinal herbs should be limited. "The dose is enough interest five flowers or leaves," Endah said. All parts of the tapak dara can be used to make potions. Commonly the flower type that used as medicinal herb is a white flower, because it is more cold or yin. Red-flowering tapak dara rarely utilized.
